Dr. Ayman Shama has extensive experience in the design and assessment of cable supported bridges for service and extreme loads including seismic and wind. Particular advanced tasks that he carried out for this class of bridges include structural identification; soil-structure interaction and the seismic design of foundations; inelastic seismic design of reinforced concrete and steel towers; evaluation of suspension system and qualitative assessment of future needs of their maintenance; and evaluation of critical connections for fatigue. Ayman is also expert in seismic hazard analysis; ground motion simulation including spectral matching techniques; and seismic retrofit design of bridges with advanced techniques such as leadcore rubber and sliding bearings. Ayman Also has considerable experience in the design of reinforced concrete arch and prestressed concrete bridges.

A Fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers, Ayman has taught several courses for ASCE Continuing Education Program including Design of Foundations for Dynamic Loads; Seismic Hazard Evaluation and Mitigation; and Application of Soil-Structure Interaction to Buildings and Bridges He also taught graduate courses at NJIT. Ayman also published numerous peer-reviewed technical papers in the area of structural engineering and presented in several national and international forums. He reviewed technical papers for several prestigious journals including ASCE Journal of Structural Division. Currently he is Editor for the ASCE Journal of Bridge Engineering.

Ayman’s recent duties included strategic planning and business development for a class of international complex bridge projects.
