This course is based on the publication, A Guide to Emergency Action Planning. The techniques and methodologies described in this course document are applicable to most areas in the United States. All employers face the possibility of emergencies such as workplace fires, hazardous chemical releases, floods, and explosions. The best defense against these hazards is to have an emergency action plan in place. When employees are trained for an emergency, the potential for injury, fatality and the liability to the employer are all decreased. This guide aids employers by highlighting the requirements of many OSHA standards related to emergency planning and emergency situations. Through the completion of this course, an employer can determine if an emergency action plan is necessary, as well as how to better prepare in case an issue may arise. This course provides the most important recommendations and how to apply them to the situation at hand. With the proper application of these procedures, as well as consistent enforcement practices, it is likely that employees will know what to do in the event of an emergency. This guide is intended to be consistent with all existing OSHA standards therefore, if an area of this course is considered by the reader to be inconsistent with OSHA, then the OSHA standard should be followed.
