Dr. Christina Schwerdtfeger, Ph.D
Dr. Christina Schwerdtfeger earned her PhD in chemistry from the University of Southern California in 1987 and has 29 years experience working as an environmental, health and safety (EHS) professional. She began her career working in industry for Hughes Aircraft Company and Northrop Grumman. Subsequently, she worked for several environmental consulting and engineering firms and achieved the rank of Regional Vice President while working at CH2M HILL.
In 2009, Dr. Schwerdtfeger formed her own company — Coto Consulting Inc. to provide greenhouse gas, EHS and auditing services on a more personal level to her clients. Dr. Schwerdtfeger is accredited by the State of California as a Lead GHG Verifier. She is also certified as a Lead Assessor for ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management systems. Her clients have included Fortune 500 companies, federal government agencies and municipalities. She has won numerous awards and accolades for her work: Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Green Industry Hall of Fame; business achievement awards from the Environmental Business Journal and Climate Change Business Journal; and Influential Businesswoman Award from AI Magazine.
Dr. Schwerdtfeger is a published author and invited speaker, as well as having served as an instructor and member of the Advisory Boards in the Sustainability Business Management and Environmental Management Certificate Programs at University of California, Irvine. She has also taught at: Claremont Graduate School; UCLA Extension Program and the Los Angeles/Orange County Environmental Training Center.
