This course discusses the need for an operation and maintenance (O&M) plan for a landfill gas collection system that addresses the following: extraction wells; LFG monitoring probes; condensate collection and treatment; and flare station. A site-specific monitoring program should be established that is flexible and performance based. LFG needs to be monitored on a regular basis to enable adjustments to be made to the wells to maximize extraction, prevent migration, and minimize drawing oxygen into the landfill. The procedures need to be regularly evaluated as changing climatic and operational conditions can have an effect on the results obtained. Course Outline 1. INTRODUCTION 2. EXTRACTION WELLS 3. LFG MONITORING PROBES 4. LFG MONITORING EQUIPMENT 5. CONDENSATE COLLECTION AND TREATMENT 6. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS After completion of this course you will be prepared to address land fill gas monitoring, collection and control issues.

Learning Objectives

At the successful conclusion of this course, you’ll be able to identify and discuss:
  • Learn about site specific monitoring programs;
  • Learn the fundamental requirements for extraction wells;
  • Find out how frequently extraction wells should be monitored;
  • Learn the importance of balancing techniques for multiple extraction wells;
  • Learn about perimeter LFG migration control;
  • Learn how to address leachate blockage issues at extraction wells;
  • Learn about the importance of monitoring conditions that may lead to landfill fires; and
  • Learn how to employ LFG monitoring probes.
